What's next for Indian Football?
Over the last couple
of years, Indian football has been on the rise under the tutelage of Stephen
Constantine. A gradual increase in FIFA rankings coupled with a thirteen match
unbeaten run and counting, the future for Indian football seems to be heading in
the right direction.
With the Blue Tigers
sealing their place in the 2019 AFC Asian Cup with a resounding win over Macau
at the Sree Kanteerava Stadium in Bengaluru, it provided the start for what
many hope is a renaissance in Indian football. From the likes of Rowlin Borges
who’s established himself as the backbone of the Indian midfield to the likes
of Jeje and Jackichand Singh with their blistering pace and creativity can send
shivers down to any opposing team’s defenders on any given day. And let’s not
forget our skipper Sunil Chhetri whose not only been an inspirational figure in
this team but also a symbol of hope to every Indian kid who dreams on wearing
the national colours and making India a powerhouse in world football.
2017 has been a
fantastic year in terms of the growth and development of Indian Football. With
us hosting the FIFA U17 World Cup, we were not only fortunate to witness great
upcoming talents from the world’s elite footballing nations; we were also able
to witness our exceptional Indian Colts in action. From the likes of Dheeraj
Singh to Komal Thatal and Aniket Jadhav and much more, they not only captured
the nation’s heart with their brilliant talent but also showed the nation that
the future of Indian football is bright.
With many kids in
India looking up to players like your Messi’s Ronaldo’s and Neymar’s it goes to
show how ‘The Beautiful Game’ has created an impact on the youth of our nation.
From being considered as a recreational sport by many parents alike in the
nation with the help of the Indian Super League, the I-League and the regional
leagues across the country, it has created opportunities for many players to
showcase their ability in the grandest of stages and most importantly given
them a platform to work hard and pursue their dream of becoming a professional
footballer in India. With things heading seemingly in the right direction as
Indian football fans there is only question we can ask ourselves i.e. what’s
next for Indian Football?
